I replayed the whole Mass Effect series again. I don’t think I really need to go into a review with this one again. It is still the most epic game series that I’ve played. Nothing even comes close.
I wonder why it’s so hard to replicate. Bioware was a small studio when it started the trilogy and now we have these huge publishers like EA and Ubisoft unable to recreate what Bioware did. It’s not because of lack of trying. The latest Star Wars Outlaw kind of proves my point.

What makes Mass Effect such an immortal game series, is not because of its graphics, gameplay or even the RPG elements. The graphics are quite bulky even in the remastered legendary edition. The gameplay is a classic cover shooter that was so popular during that era, and the RPG elements are laughable at best.
What makes me come back to this game over and over is its writing. It is funny where it needs to be. It doesn’t take itself too seriously. And yet it can be dead serious and really impose a sense of doom. The game is also sad. You fight for hundreds of hours with these characters and then they .. die. And that leave a sense of loneliness inside.

This is what big game publishers fail to realise. The game is immortalised by its writing. Nobody cares if your graphics can zoom in to see the wings of a fly. Nobody cares if you can do 64 player multiplayer. Nobody cares if you have 100 different real world weapon replicas in your game. What makes people hooked is an engaging story which makes you laugh, makes you gasp in horror, makes you do shitty things that feels bad and even makes you cry a little when your favourite character sacrifices themselves for the team.
Yeah, I think that’s it, and nobody did it as well as Bioware did.
I rate this game as EXCELLENT.
