You’re a fisherman that on a dark night run into some rocks and capsizes your boat. You wake up on an island where the governor offers you a replacement boat and some fishing tools to get you started, but there’s something “fishy” going on. You’re told not to go out at night and there is an ominous feeling in the air.
Dredge is a fishing game with Lovecraftian elements to it. It’s spooky at night, but never on the verge of scary. You drive around with your boat, fishing from fishing schools, turn that fish in for profit which you use to improve your boat.

There are questgivers who want a particular kind of fish. Some fish are only located in specific regions and some can only be caught at night when danger is about. It’s the danger that makes the game interesting. You try to make sure you aren’t caught in open sea after dark and always keep track of time and the distance to nearest dock.
The fishing is really fun, the world is cool to explore and you’re constantly fed with new kinds of fish and new mechanics. The game manages to keep the gameplay fresh all the way to the end.

I love the graphics, it feels nice to be out at sea with your boat. The characters are fun and the story is interesting even if it’s a bit predictable.
I didn’t like the endings (yes, I played both) and I found the upgrade path for my boat to be much longer than the game. I stuck around after I finished all the missions just to make all the upgrades and get the PlayStation trophies. That was not the best part of the game.
I rate this game as GREAT
