Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

This is a game that reminds me a lot of old beat ’em up games of my youth like Double Dragon and Golden Axe. You walk from left to right, beat the enemies that appear and fight a boss at the end of each level.

This is what they call new retro. A new game made to look and play like an old game with pixel graphics and music tracks that plays like old mods, but it’s all hotted up with the convenience of modern game design.

This game is a classic side scolling beat ’em up. The cool part is the couch co-op.

I like the graphics, it looks very good, and I like the music, it’s awesome. The gameplay doesn’t really translate to modern gaming and I feel that the vertical movement is too slow and some of the enemies are mostly annoying. They didn’t bring the excruciating difficulty from those old games, which I thank them for. You can easily finish the game in 1-2 sittings with no trouble on the easier settings.

The flying sections were not my favourite. I found the controls a bit too clumsy for this. Not at all like the flying sections in Cuphead.

This is probably a much more fun experience playing couch coop with friends as a hangout game. Playing it solo was entertaining but I will not come back for more.

I rate this game as GOOD

Rating: 3 out of 5.
