FAR: Lone Sails

It’s been a while since I sat down and played a game. I’ve been busy, my mind has been occupied with other things and the TV has been occupied as well. Today it was like the stars aligned; I was done with what I needed to do for work, the family left house for a couple of hours and I wasn’t completely under water.

So I played FAR: Lone Sails.

This is a nice little indie game where you drive a vehicle over a vast space. You do it by pushing buttons, loading it with energy, releasing steam and setting sail when the wind is blowing in the right direction. At times you need to stop to pickup more fuel, and at times you need to stop because there is an obstacle you need to take care of. These obstacles are like mini puzzles, not very hard, but they break up the monotony of driving the vehicle.

You control the vehicle by pressing buttons, loading it with energy, releasing steam and so on.

The gameplay reminds me a bit of Lovers in a dangerous space time, but without the shooting and you’re alone in your ship.

The art design is gorgeous and the backgrounds are stunning. Even if the game is short and simple, it is satisfying. There is stuff happening and I assume there is some kind of environmental storytelling here that I’m not really catching on to.

I rate this game as GOOD.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
