Mini Motorways

I like Cities: Skylines. You know, the Sim City clone where you build roads and buildings. If I’m going to make a confession, I mostly enjoy managing traffic. You know where there is a traffic jam in your city and you need to act quick to unjam it. You start analysing where all the traffic is coming from, where they’re going and try to accommodate the need in some other route than the jammed one.

It’s problem solving. It’s fun.

Mini Motorways is a game around just that concept. You have cars going from an origin to a destination and back again. You shall paint the roads so there’ll be no jams. It’s very addictive.

Watch out, don’t make your city a mess.

I really enjoy the simple UI and the short span of each game. You can easily pick it up and play for a few minutes. I enjoy the simplicity of it, and the complexity. It is complex in its simplicity and I love that.

On the downside the game has very little variation. The different levels varies mostly in the color scheme, and there is no difficulty progression. Once you’ve unlocked the tunnels and roundabouts, that’s it in terms of mechanics.

Mini Motorways is quite pleasant to look at, and really easy to play.

It is also pretty clear that once you’ve mastered the basic techniques, there is not much more to it. You play the next levels but they don’t pose much challenge. I did play through all the levels, but I would have enjoyed it more with a bit more variation.

I rate this game as OK.

Rating: 2 out of 5.
